    ERA Plus

    ERA offers additional licence opportunity

From 1 August 2007 ERA will offer its licensees the opportunity to take out an additional licence which will enable licensed ERA Recordings to be accessed by students and teachers on line whether they are on the premises of their school, college or university, or at home or working elsewhere within the UK.

The new licence will be called the "ERA Plus Licence".

oooh that sounds good especially the latter bit about working with other bodys to cover there works within the ERA+ licence, I wonder if thats waht BECTA were hinting at when I spoke to them last year about digitising videos and they said they were working on a scheme with another body, it would make sense to get an ERA+ and then have more wide blanket cover over any recording so we can just plough through digitising the videos we have.

    Re: era plus

ERA Plus is a massive step forward for schools that want to make materials available online for students. Please note that this license *still* only covers existing ERA license coverage and does not cover copyrighted materials outside of the free to air broadcast providers. You *still* need to get permission from the copyright provider / publisher.

Thats also good as I've had Sports dept moaning about what no recording Sky Sports to analyse the rugby match for the 1st rugby team, so that will cure it.

Also means I get Sky in my office

    Re: era plus

At the moment you cannot do this. No formal agreement has been made with Sky or Virgin Media to be included in the ERA coverage for pay-to-view channels (ie any channels that have to have some level of subscription ... even if it is just 'family pack' ... if it is not free to air it is not free).

Sky still tell you to use the Sky+ box to record it and then play it back. They will offer deals on this involving schools getting 2 Sky+ boxes.

Virgin Media could not tell me what was happening at the moment other than they are looking into a number of things for schools (conversations had first week in August)
