I'm looking at getting something that I can connect with a tablet/phone and use on my travels.
I'm thinking Pay as You Go probably as it wouldn't be something constantly in use. Does anyone have experience/recommendations beyond checking out the provider's coverage of the places you go to most?
I am tempted to get something that is unlocked with a view to getting local data Sim cards when overseas, particularly France where we travel regularly.

28th February 2013, 04:44 PM #2 I'm not quite sure what is was you wanted recommendations for - a tablet or a mobile data provider. Anyway if its the latter then I can recommend giffgaff. I have a sim in my iPad and buy 500meg of data for £5, which lasts for 30 days. They use the O2 Network.
Hope this helps

28th February 2013, 04:51 PM #5 Have you got a Smartphone? I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace from Carphone Whorehouse for £7.50 a month I get 500MB data, 250 minutes of calls and 5000 texts. For a quick check of emails etc. I just use the phone. For browsing I tether my notebook tothe phone, which is dead easy to do and works well.

I have, but unfortunately my provider (Tesco) won't let me use it for this purpose.

That's pretty mean, how long is your contract?

I got that far... I was just wondering if anyone else had experience or a specific recommendation. It seems not.

1st March 2013, 08:15 PM #11 Get an unlocked 3 Branded Huawei mifi from eBay and a 3 Mobile PAYG data sim from Amazon. Simples.
A 3GB (3 months use) Sim can be found for about £11 a 12month 12GB one for as little as £40
I normally buy half a dozen and thrown them away when they run out.
We have used the Huawei 586 Mifi extensively throughout Europe, Middle East the Far East and Asia it just works everywhere the only place we had any issues were the West Indies.
