Thats quiete funny that you can get use that to create images yourself. Ive always been a fan of VMware for testing. I did my whole NT 4 to 2003 in VMware and have done other various projects testing using it to. I havent needed it too often so I have used the 30 day trial but if you can get round this player then great.

well looking at it to use it to crete msi as reimaging pc is pain got pc use here for software imaging but if msi buggers it up got to reput the image back on etc which takes time but if got default vmware image just copy from back up and reload it
Russ
Thats what I have used it for as well. The ability to discard changes by reverting to snapshot is great. Only problem is if you machine is part of the domain your time end up out of sync. I usually
Take the snapshot while Im logged on.
Have a bat file on the desktop to sync time using net time.
Lock the computer then unlock to renew your credentials.
Then your off again![]()

ok also ideas is there anyway of getting a image taken with symantec ghost onto vmware image for free and also if got image that depends on network being there i.e say rmimage does vmware releise network etc is there
russ
I have read that VMware is supposed to do hardware emulation from an image but I dont think this works on the basic work station editions.
A vm machine can be set to sit on the network just like a normal PC or just interact with its host etc etc.
VMWare Player will run ghost images.
Might be good to create a little samba VM for people to look at Geoff depending on size it would compress to etc and someone hosting it ofc. If its feasable a few little ones could be created showing of Danguardian etc.
Theres a site to generate the basic VM file here

ok next one how would you go about creating a mac os image to work with vmware player
russ
I dont see any mention of Mac support Russ. Probably something to do with hardware?
Yeah Power isn't supported to well atm IIRC. The cracked Mac OS X x86 binaries would probably work fine though.

ok last question as going have laugh how do use floppy going to try and build rm workstation using vmware....
do i need to create inage of floppy or will it se it straight away
Russ
Just map the virtual floppy drive to the real one.
You just need to make sure you have specified use a floppy take a lokk at that file generator I mentioned above and you will se mention of a floppy. It should accept a physical disk or an image depending on how you set it.
You can also make this a little easier as well by downloading the full Workstation version on 30 day trial and build machnes a little easier with that. That way you can still use them in the player once the trial is up.
