I have a HP 5550 Pocket PC which has Inbuilt Wireless , 128meg ram and 400 mhz Processor . So it should be ok spec wise. It does have the ability to record voice so theres a mic in there somewhere as well.
Would be nice to find a solution like this otherwise maybe another unit capable of this...

It's simply a matter of having the software to connect to your IP phone system.

A slight digression (as is customary hehe) but can anyone suggest a good internal phone system for the whole school?

VoIP sounds good but I know nothing about it and also, I dont really want it added to my list of jobs here (unless they pay me for the privelege hehe). Anyone know any good wired/wireless systems? - preferably not linux boxes that I have to fix please

we just had ours done here by daly telecom 0870 244 1444 system is very good also the phones allow you to redirect them to anothier phone number..

I have just skimmed through this so forgive me if I have missed something obvious but..... Would I be able to somehow relay the calls from the office phone line to my PDA ? Is this something asterisk could do?

I don't think that this is possible with Skype since it uses a proprietry protocol.

If you have a SIP/H.323 phone system and you can find a suitable PDA client, there is no reason why not. Geoff may have an idea since he has been playing with Asterisk.

just to clarify skype is not redirecting the office phone your phone system is which all modern systems do now and most old systems do it as well just need to know right key combo to activate it.. it is just redirecting to your skype number so people who ring office phone get put through to the skypein number.
