We had a couple of Thermaltake wavey ones like that too, switched to Antec, the build quality difference was huge in favor of Antec.

We had one of those Thermaltake ones with the wavy brushed aluminium front...it was awful, no space to get your hands in, no cable management options to speak of...it made me sad (im a neat freak when it comes to inside cases)

Update: the new case arrived and the quality difference between the Antec Three Hundred Two case and the faulty pile of rubbish is simply astounding! It's rock solid, neat, and looks the business. I'm dead chuffed with it, plus it came with an extra free 120mm case fan!

Glad it's worked out for you sad as it is there really are very few hidden bargains to be had in PC components, you get what you pay for!

Next time anyone is tempted by a cheap PSU: think of it in the same way as these cases, but less visible to the untrained eye

Glad to hear your new case is much better.

A good rule of thumb I have is to avoid all cases under £40-£45 and to only buy ones made by well-known manufacturers (Antec, Corsair, Fractal, Silverstone, Streacom etc.). It has worked out well so far.

The Zalman cases are good, except the Z5...that is an abomination. For personal use I wouldn't ever buy an unbranded one, and it would always have to have at leave an 80+ Bronze rating minimum.

Don't forget to benchmark something (ideally an actual FPS score in a game) on your existing rig first so you can compare how wonderful the new one is, if it's not already been cannibalized for parts.

Already done and made a note of the details.

Ran the ARMA2 night time benchmark level and got a super wicked FPS average of 2 frames a second!!!

    Your move new rig...

I noticed there is a vent and filter under the PSU mount...turn your PSU over so the fan is blowing down out of the bottom of the case. It will help with cooling as the PSU isnt pulling air from the inside of the case and disrupting your airflow direction

Good spot, but it's not a fail on my part. The screw holes on the PSU don't align to the holes on the case when it's the other way round (which is annoying) hence having to put it that way in so it fits.

Got to love the excitement of a new rig I built one fairly recently (less than 6 months ago) because my old machine had gotten to the point where it could no longer talk to current graphics cards, even with the alpha BIOS MSI kindly sent me!

Don't miss the Unigine demo from NVIDIA on your new rig, especially when/if you get a new GPU - the tessellation demo is beautiful! My rig only manages around 25FPS with everything maxed out, but I did skimp on the graphics a bit (the money I was going to spend on the next xbox will be spent on either a new card or a matching one for SLI, got to research what's the better option)

EDIT: blocked at work but I believe this is the demo I'm talking about: http://www.geforce.com/games-applica...igine-Heaven-2

Hand me a fail card. I double checked the PSU and case holes and it DID fit the other way! Air intake and air filter now aligned!

New rig is up and I am simply loving it!!! I had no idea how small SSD's where, and how stupidly quick it is compared to my old machine! Glad I went for the pro option!

The AMD FX-8350 runs like a dream, and even my GPU is holding it's own. Got ARMA2 running and it looks incredible and the FPS jump is astounding. It's like I'm playing a totally different game!

Good SSDs are well worth the money

Glad it's worked out satisfactorily for you, what was the ARMA2 benchmark this time?
