    Amazon US & UK

We have been given an American Express gift card with $'s on it rather than but when we have tried to use it in the UK it always gets declined. We are now looking at getting something from Amazon US to allow us to use it online. I've read that you can buy credit with a giftcard and use that on your account to purchase your items and if they don't match you can make up the difference. I was wondering if there was any way we could get credit on Amazon US and use it to purchase stuff from the UK?

I was just wondering whether you could add it to a PayPal account? PayPal will convert the currency in hand to the currency of the transaction.

I don't have a Paypal account but I can look into it. The problem seems to stem from the card only being recognised by the American Express US website and not the UK so I assume it's down to currency. Rather that buy something from the US I would like to buy something here so Paypal might be a good way around it

Tried Paypal over the weekend but it looks like they only accept GreenDot cards now. So in order to do that I would need to use the GiftCard to get a GreenDot card then credit Paypal for them to exchange the money and use it in the UK. It seems to be getting more and more frustrating trying to use this card so it looks like we might end up using it with Amazon US.

    Thanks anyway

That's disappointing. It was worth a try.

Surprised you can't order direct from Amazon US ( but then it would use most of the money on shipping and may get charges from Customs / Tax etc ) ??

What @plexer said sounds like something reasonable to try

This is what I think we will end up doing, but I didn't want to pay charges if I could help it. And of course sending it back if there is a problem is easier.
