Looking at the locality here, I wish local authorities would stop with the trying to squeeze every penny out of you for parking on streets and lay by's it makes town a no go area and puts people off I believe (local authority has the audacity to put meters by these bays to charge people 50p for 20 mins of parking in a short stay bay), at the same time though my town centre has a problem with landlord companies charging well over the odds for retail units.

It sums it up here when the Disney store that we had is set to close shortly in our main town shopping centre, because its rent and rates are too high to the point where it isn't competitive to be open according to its manager when we were in there the other day, he told us in the two years they have been here they were getting crucified by costs which had doubled on renewing their initial lease.

Local satellite towns and areas to us outside of our council, have much better shopping areas as a result with ample free parking, yet we have an authority here, that just doesn't get it.

For what we save on buying on line we will eventually spend more on tax to support unemployment benefits. The concencus is that we "feel sorry for those that are facing uncertainty of employment", but the truth is we don't and we cannot until we start keeping the High Streets alive. This is the unpleasant side of technological advancement.

Argos is probably the best example of how to run a brick and mortar along side a web store.

I was also VERY shocked last weekend when I stepped foot inside a B&M Bargains store for the first time. What an amazing place!! haha
Its like a supermarket and tat store rolled into one and CHEAP!

    I'm converted!

I'm a fan of Argos. I buy a fair amount of stuff from them still - they're convenient! Go online, check stock, buy and voila you can either get it delivered or collect from the shop. Simple.

Plus, their prices are often pretty good. Got my TV, Blu-Ray player and an external hard disk from them over the last couple of years.

Argos has to be the only place that can get customers to do their catalogue shopping IN the shop. They know what they're doing!

Argos was way ahead of its time. I remember when the Harrogate branch opened in the back of Woolworths in the late 1970s. It caused great excitement.

It was a simple model that was just waiting for the internet to happen. The other catalogues didn't have the shop-fronts to promote their brand and when the internet did take hold, they were well placed to take advantage, but didn't have the turn-over of Argos. HMV's problem is a failure to keep up with the internet shopping revolution as soon as it happened. It let the likes of Play.com do the internet while it remained a shop-front. HMV was too slow and it's paid for it now.

Damnit, I could see this coming and meant to spend my vouchers last weekend. Unfortunately, like a muppet, I left the vouchers at my Parents house so thought I'd do it this weekend. See I am psychic, just rubbish at following my predictions :P

When they enter the legal status of being in administration, they get to suspend a bunch of rights...

If I had any HMV vouchers I would happily go in and steal what I wanted for the amount I had in vouchers. The items have already been paid for.
