I adore poker..have won a grand total of £5,275 in various tournaments on partypoker. Best tournament I did was finishing 1st in a 1200 player tournament (won £3,500 for that one)
Try and learn the basics before you go along
Learn the 'Poker Ladder' so you know which hands beat each other
Use your Poker-Virginity to your advantage by asking seemingly stupid questions (to lull the opponents into a false sense of security).
Don't be bullied out of good hands by somebody who looks like they know what they are doing and are betting big to scare you off.
However, don't go calling somebody because you think they are bluffing - when you haven't got a good hand yourself. I won a tournament last week when somebody called with a 10-2 because they had "had enough of your bluffing".
In the beginning play hands when you've got something good - once you pick it up that's when you learn when/how to bluff with your bets etc.
Good luck and have fun
If all else fails get p****d and look at the scenary
Another good tip is learn positional play, try not to play out of position on the table, and dont be scared to bluff when you are in position. I have always found that many hands are won or lost based on your position on the table. (position is your seat relative to the current dealer button)

If we've got enough interested people any chance of having an Edugeek poker night or something?

I'm always up for winning some money on poker![]()
I'll pass. Saw Casino Royale for the first time on Saturday and it reinforced my view that card games are not for me. The only way I'd be able to win would be to poison all of your Vodka Martinis.Originally Posted by plexer

Perhaps an incentive for some to pay attention to Witch's post on location! Or maybe we could set something up online?
