No Certs here... Loads of experience but I still consider that I know nothing. It is best to stay that way IMO. If you know everything your brain would be spread across your office walls and you would be a very boring person (if you were still alive!).

When I started this game, it was possible to know almost everything you needed to know. All about the networks, how the systems connected, and how to support the small range of applications. You could know everything. Now, you haven't got a chance. Many days are like treading water. Odds on though, if you need a solution someone here will know.

    Remember one point:

Everyone is ignorant - only the subject varies.

Keep your chin up, everyone has days like it.

Look at where you have been and how much you have got done in the last year, bet you have got more done that some.

Least its the weekend, have a relaxing weekend and come back to it with a fresh head on Monday.

Hehe. True ignorance though, that seems to come with age ("I'm not young enough to know everything" : Oscar Wilde).

"...universities are truly storehouses of knowledge: students arrive from school confident that they know nearly everything, and they leave years later certain that they know practically nothing. Where did the knowledge go in the meantime? Into the university, of course, where it is carefully dried and stored." - Terry Pratchett

Can't add more than has all ready been said. I think a large proportion of IT is bluffing until you can find the answer, it's only the big headed that think it is all skill. One of the first things my boss said to me here is we can't know everything about IT so shouldn't expect to and anyone that says they do is lying. If you try your head will explode

Enjoy your weekend, do something non-tech and enjoyable and come back fresh Monday and post up your issues. Some smart arse will have the answer

@Little-Miss Just remember that @Domino has been berating me all day because I cannot read - '2' and 'U' are very different characters... as are '3' and '8'.

If you ever need to relac, you can always come and teach me to read/tidy some cables

TBH I almost completely lost an 8 host vm cluster of 147 VMs at the start of this week.
@Ric_ managed to shut down a machine at a production datacentre instead of the DR one.
@Beard took down the phone lines of an office that exclusively did phone support. at midday.

And @SimonD managed to delete a worldwide replication filesystem of almost 2TB and over a million files.

...trust me, you're not that bad.

The epic phone issue with @Beard did mean that I got to work a 32 hour shift with him in Riga though
@Domino also forgot that I nearly bricked a very expensive conference phone earlier today! Not to mention the number of firewall configs I may have got less than correct.
