It's a bit like how difficult it is for viruses jump species (x86 viruses won't work on PPC ).

That said, after reading this thread - anything short of a black monolith is going to be highly disappointing now!
For viriiiii, the RNA must be able to implant itself into the cells. And these cells must be specific - the cells with which the virus has evolved. If it's the wrong cell, it simply doesn't work. The wrong key won't open a padlock. A cup of seawater contains billions of virus particles, yet they won't affect us. So a completely alien RNA/DNA 'bug' making use of a Earth-based host cell would be a virtual impossibility. That said, I'd wash my hands after handling it.

Right - sweepstake time: I reckon it's found fossilised bacteria.

We've known water is on Mars for a while now so I can't see that being "one for the history books". I'm thinking bacteria, but if it's gonna be truly "earth shattering" then I'd hope it's living rather than fossilised. The question is - Did it hitch a lift from Florida, or is it truly Martian...

    Hmm it could be..

A music concert headlining Tupac, Elvis and MJ.

    A reliable 4G signal

A slightly darker kind of dirt (they do tend to get giddy over nothing)
