What are you like at remembering pupils' names?

I'm useless. I can be with a class one lesson, an hour later, I have one of them in the medical room and I cannot remember thir name. They all look the same to me!

With 1,200 students [most of whom I never see] I don't remember their names either. But I am off to a bad start as remembering names and faces is not one of my strengths.

Absolutely terrible here. The majority of names I know are trouble makers/problem causers. Thankfully there's a few I know who are otherwise exceptional so have a good reason for remembering their name

I only remember names if I come into direct contact with them more than once, other than that I try to stay away from the classes/clubs so I can get on with my work.

Same problem for me - and we have only got 70! It's the ones who stand out from the crowd (have come to my notice through missdeeds, have outstandingly strange behaviour or just plain look odd - with a styled haircut for example) that I remember - so, that's about a dozen of them at the most.

Gets a bit embarrassing sometimes when the teaching staff assume that I have picked up the names!

But they all recognise me! If I go into town at the weekend, I try and make it first thing whilst they are still tucked up in bed. I had to pop down for something this afternoon and there was a hoard of them messing about in the precinct and getting filthy looks from the shoppers. They see me and all call out "HELLO MR B". Said shoppers then stare at me as if I'm responsible for the little tow-rags!

When I was working in Education, I could remember a fair few of the kids names at first school, was there over 8 years! Second school, only knew the trouble makers and the really good kids (ones that was interested in IT).

I had same problem with the kids knowing who I was. Used to get loads of them saying hello in the street! Some of the still do even thou I am not there anymore and they have left school!

Our Headteacher knows the name of every single one of our 310 pupils. I don't know how she does it, she only has to meet them once or twice! I know quite a few of the names, mainly the older ones and the 'characters'.

It is a skill every HT I've met seems to possess. They only have to meet a child once to remember their name, or so it seems. I wish I could do it. I'm fairly rubbish with names.

    Students! What Students!

Do we have students at our school?

    I wouldn't know!

We have lots of IT equipment that I know the name of every little item, why? because that's my job that's why and that is why all HT's know the name of everyone of their students and staff because that is their job.

    Horses for courses!

I don't ever intend to learn student names because I can always ask them.....................or look them up in the Sims because I never forget a face!

    And you are????

I don't even know all the teachers names! In my defence we are a very large school, with over 200 staff, and nearly 2000 students.
