ICT Procedures Manual
I think its time to start to review procedures and satrt to get things on paper. I have all network documentation already.
My concern is that if i ever left this role that staff would not know how to do certain thinsgs.
If anyone has such a document i would be grateful if i could have look for ideas.
i would like an 'ICT Technical Support Procedures Manual'
If a new technician was to join i could give them this document and they would be able to get a feeling of how i wanted things to be done.
Somethings i would like to include; to list a few ideas.
Backup Procedure
Naming Convention Procedure
Creating User Procedure
Helpdesk Procedure

5th October 2012, 02:12 PM #2 We keep a wiki website that everyone in the support team updates. Self hosted Apache server with MediaWiki. Works a treat, we have network maps, IP allocations, howto's, backup routines, just about everything in there so anyone from the NM down can be replaced and the new person can be up and running very quickly.

It's a virtual machine, the VHD is copied to my off-site NAS once a term

Only mentioned because this was a problem at with the disaster recovery plan of a school I'm involved with... fabulous plan... all available on the network. However to get to the plan, you needed to have a network and if the network was out completely, the recovery instructions...

Lol, I should write step 1 down and put it in the fire safe
Step 1) restore webserver VHD image from off-site back to any old laptop and rebuild Virtual Machine.

Something you write yourself if you don't have any, if only to point at when someone asks about it.

8th October 2012, 08:53 PM #13 As above we use a wiki for all our details on our network. We probably dont keep it as up to date as we should - something I probably need to review.
