    Anyone here with dual citizenship?

Probably the most random questions on Edugeek for the day. Do you hold a British passport and one for another country?

Have you had any problems at British immigration when you come back from abroad even though you're traveling on a British passport?

Does Border Control know if you have dual citizenship?

    Thanks.

Re: Anyone here with dual citizenship?

I hold a British, German and American passport. I use the British one for the UK and Commonwealth countries. The German one for Europe and the American for when I go to the North American continent.

My mum holds British and German nationality and my dad holds British and American. As a result when I and my brothers and sisters were younger they got us the passports and I've renewed them as and when. They're certainly helpful to have.

To add....I've never had an issue with immigration in any of the 3 countries...though I do have to have my fingerprint and eye scan done when renewing the US documentation.

If you have a British passport they should let you freely pass no questions asked, you have a right to be here.

I don't have dual nationality, but some experience in the family.

My cousin has dual Swiss/UK and he simply finds it easier to travel in Europe on a Swiss ID card rather than bothering with either passport.
A friend has triple UK/US/Irish and says the only difficulty is remembering which passport she used to enter a country when travelling - it's wise to enter and leave on the same passport!

And no, I don't believe the Border Agency know if you have another nationality. I assume you are asking from the point of view of someone who is naturalised as UK citizen? Some countries have a law that says that if one of their nationals naturalises as another nationality, then they lose their original citizenship. So a Ruritanian naturalising as British would not have dual nationality.

I have British and Australian passports. I travel out of the UK on my Aussie passport and in on the British one without any problems. When I go home or come back to Blighty, I can use the "us" gate.

Mrs AT has dual British and American citizenship. Like others have said, she takes both passports with her when we travel, then uses the British passport at British passport control and the US passport at US passport control. She has never had any issues.
