    When he was small my nephew, when trying to describe the man who was his biological father - said "diabolical father" and since the man in question walked out when my sister was pregnant and has never wanted to see his son, the name has stuck to this day!

    My son described an umbrella as an underbrella.... the rooflight in our caravan was referred to by my daughter as a fruitlight.....

    both words have remained in use by my family for 25 years now.

    The best one in my family is when, about 3 years ago, my children found out that I was saying "newel" post and not, as they had always thought - "mule post"

    They were 21, 19 and 17 at the time!
