A unique man, probably a name known by a majority of people on the planet.

    RIP.

A true hero. I remember the landing very well. We arrived at school in the morning, and those of us with parents at home, we're sent away so that we could watch it. The school only had one TV, and getting 950 pupils around it, just wasn't going to work. I sat, glued to the screen all day, waiting for the moment, clutching a little scrapbook. In the week before the landing, the local newspaper printed drawings of the mission, which you could cut out and stick in the scrapbook. I still have this.

I'm afraid it's gone very yellow over the years, hence the smudges on the scan, but I'll always treasure it.

    sad news.
It's been a long time since space travel was something that was done, its sad, one of the few people who have truly travelled a meaningful distance in space is gone.

"Neil Armstrong" one of the reasons why I got into technology in the first place, actually watched the lunar landings as they happened (6 years old) and have been so infused ever since with all forms of technilogical advances whatever subject matter.

"One small part of the human race"......................................... "One huge loss for all of humanity" RIP you will be sorely missed!

I remember (just) seeing the Neil Armstrong step onto the moon as my Dad woke me up to watch it live in black and white on our TV very early in the morning...

I have just had to look up the time we would have seen it and apparently the main event occurred at 3:56 am UK time. so I must remember to thank my Dad for bothering to ensure I witnessed such a momentous event!

I was always in awe of the guys that pioneered early space travel and as others have said it probably got me interested in technology...although I have my dad to thank (again) for getting me interested in computers!

Oh and I also made the Airfix models of the Saturn V and the lunar landing module...

I was gutted when I heard this and I can't believe we've not returned to the moon before he's left us. We should be ashamed.

There is a possibility that we could get to a time where no living human has walked on the Moon.

I'd say more of a dark certainty at this point.

It's sad the media have barely mentioned Mike Collins. Always Buzz Aldrin they want to hear from. Technically Buzz was the number three man on the mission. The CMPs job was seen as far more important than being the commanders side-kick on the lunar surface.
