Cant help but notice that the 680 fairs worse than the 590? Odd
Reviews went up after I'd had my lunch :( so will have to read through tomorrow... but given that UK pricing on the 680 seems to match the 7970, AMD are going to have to take their new cards down to sensible prices rather than the takeAdvantageWhileWeCan prices they launched at. Hopefully nVidia don't take too long getting the rest of the stack out and put some price pressure on AMD elsewhere as well!
The 590 was a dual-GPU card though, with two 580 chips on it. The 680 should provide much more stable (and power efficient) performance than the 590, which costs some 50% more than the 680 anyway.
There'll be a 690 along at some point, and a 7990, both of which will be £500+ parts and pointlessly capable.
This is going to be fast! :D

Obviously they intend on saving the GK100 chip for the 700 series, then, if the 690 is just the dual GK104 (as is inkeeping, I suppose). That'll be an incredible card when it comes out.
With Ivy Bridge competition on the CPU side and Kepler competition on the GPU side, looks like AMD are in an unenviable position right now.
Reviews are coming out for the big brother now: AnandTech - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 Review: Ultra Expensive, Ultra Rare, Ultra Fast
Got a GTX 680, and it's brilliant, max settings on BF3 and it never drops bellow 50fps, usually at 60. It's also a lot cooler than my previous card (550ti)
I'm after a gtx680 now too, shortage of supply has pushed up the prices dramatically :( Just in the process of building a gaming PC, tbh all I want it for is skyrim but looking to futureproof
I'm thinking of getting an EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Superclocked for £420. Everyone else is selling it for £50-£70 more!
420 is still a lot plus never heard of them!, I'm still kicking myself for not getting one from dabs when they were 375... (I think thats my hang up) That and 7970s are on par yet cheaper (just don't want radeon)
Er, not sure that's the case - the 680 is, on average, faster, quieter, cooler. Admittedly, both cards are absolute monsters and the differences are probably a drop in the ocean, but every review I read at launch pegged the 680 as superior to the 7970.
And ouch @Arthur... funny how $999 translates to £850 instead of the £620 the conversion rate would have you believe
I agree the 680 is the best card and it's the one that I want - just waiting for dust to settle and supply problems are sorted so prices can be a bit better :) (cash waiting)
ocuk have a 7970 today for £360 for instance.
The GTX 690 should cost £741.14 when you factor in the 20% VAT after converting 999 USD into GBP. Having to pay an extra £159 in the UK is annoying to say the least! :(
That's what I was thinking too, although ordering with a credit card reduces the risk a bit.
I currently have a GTX 680 on order from Dabs for £385, but I am not sure if it's worth getting the pre-overclocked version instead? Probably not?
