Empire: Total War?

Anyone got/getting it? I'm patiently awaiting the 5pm online unlock on steam here. :D

Anyway if you don't know what I'm on about, here's the trailer.

Got it, great game, showed those pesky injuns a thing or two, then kicked those damn surrender monkey out of the east coast last night. Don't know if I'll bother with the last bit of the war of independence though.. beating the British? who would want to do that?!

Yeah I am a bit puzzled by the 2nd chapter, I took the french place Fort Niagara, but then what? Didnt seem to be anywhere else to go. Am I supposed to turn on my iroquois allies and kill them too to end the chapter?

Your meant to head north. after taking the French town, it should open the map up some more, you get a bit of a cut scene about English and the French fighting, then your told to help them, so you have to take the towns just above, then up into Canada.

Hmm...maybe mine bugged, I took the town but didnt get a cutscene and the map didnt open up. I'll restart it tonight and try again.

How do you capture towns? In prior games you just parked yourself in the 'square' and stabbed people to death.

I want to as I love this kind of game and love the era but my computer won't run it :( Am the cry

I did it by killing/routing all the defenders

Fair enough. Bloody indians kept running off last night and hiding round the otherside of the hill which explains the problem.

I met up with one of my old school friends on saturday and it turns out he was a programmer on this game. Did a lot of the Pathfinding stuff on the war-maps.

Smack him in the face for me then, the pathfinding on the troops can be a nightmare, trying to get your troops to cross a bridge is almost an exercise in frustration at times. Worse though was that at one point one section of my fort walls was on fire, and I told my troop on the walls to move down to the courtyard just in case.

What did they do? They only went and walked through the fire getting most of them killed. :mad:

I think he meant the strategic map not the actually battle map :S Is it that bad then? What spec PC do you need to run the game?

Nah its not that bad, to be honest I only had the wall fire thing happen once. Bridges are a touch problematic to get units across though, but I'm sure that will be patched. Cant remember off the top of my head what the specs required are, my gaming rig is one of those over the top powerful things so I never pay much attention to the specs.

I never used to a while ago but I've not had the money available to do a decent upgrade :(
