PS3 Bluray Drive wont recognise disks

Any PS3 gurus out there?

My PS3 bluray wont recognise disks anymore, they load into the drive fine but nothing appears on screen (its as if no disk was inserted). This applies to games, Blurays and DVDs. My model number is CECHK03 but googling I cant work out what I need to do if I want to replace the drive. Youtube videos suggest that each drive has a logic board on it that pairs it to your ps3 so its not as easy as just replacing the drive. You can move logic board to the new drive but problem is my drive doesnt seem to have a logic board on the outside (as per youtube videos). I dont want to buy a drive from fleabay only to find it wont work.

Any one know how I go about replacing the drive without sending it off to Sony or 3rd party?

it might just be the laser that's kaput, that might be the cheapest option to try first. I think they can just be unscrewed and swapped (mount and everything) then its just a ribbon cable to reattach. It may not be the case but its worth a crack if your going to replace the drive anyway. they are about £25quid from fleabay
