Either way, with a Linux powered Steam 'console' of sorts in the pipeline, I'm sure Valve will be pumping a vast amount of resources into active development into the Linux environment which can only be a good thing. :)Quote:

His point in the article was that the effort required to port games is actually pretty minimal, as the grunt work has been done already, writing the game. It can even be made simpler if everyone works from the initial position of writing portable code in the first place.
So, I'm looking forward to a boom in Linux games. My life will be complete when there's an Anno game in Linux.
Bought Mirrors Edge last year. Had it on Xbox, it was brilliant, saw it on PC and couldn't pass it up. Glad it's on sale again as I've recommended it to friends who said they might pick it up.
Not that impressed with Day1 myself. Raised an eyebrow at the Prince of Persia set, but I only really liked the first one. 2 and 3 were.. 'eh. Not bad, not great. Haven't played the fourth.

Although, Sands of Time did amusingly have a re-make of a the (actual) first Prince of Persia's first level in it.
Arma 2 would be the only one I would consider, but I have to be frugal for the moment.
I found Kubuntu 12.04 with all compositing effects disabled to be quite reliable for the Linux Beta. Just got to put up with Jockey crashing until you run post-install updates.
12.10 was OK but suffered from micro-stutter in every game.
I presume Valve have their standard "flagship" games available on Linux? Half-Life 2, TF2, L4D etc?

I grabbed Dishonored while it was at 50% off, and I was not disappointed at all! 3 hours in so far and I'm still only on the first mission after finishing the intro. There's a lot of ways to approach this game!
Also got The Witcher 2 while it's a nice price, ready for when I finally finish the first game, (Which, by the way, is up for £1.79 extended edition and is well worth the purchase if your spec can handle it!) and a friend picked me up Forge, which is a nice little take on arena based combat games.
I've got Ultimate Mortal Kombat Collection, Arkham Asylum GOTY, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Broken Sword Trilogy in my cart as I type, and it's only £12.46 for 8 games that I really loved the first time I played them.
Now to find some Christmas presents for the lads! ;)
