Star Trek Online - Now FREE

    Thats right people...

Star Trek online is now free to play.

If you paid before hand, you keep all the items you had before, plus you get a bonus as well since it turned to F2P.

    Enjoy

I'm on it, been open on the new F2P system for about a week if you had a previous sub. They've made some improvements though it isn't perfect, just enough to show Perfect World are polishing it up a bit.

I'm glad to see STO has finally fallen into the free category as it fits better there. Before it was a free quality game with a subscription and an additional F2P revenue model on top!

Tyana@Arsonwulf if you want to add me.

OK it's been about six or seven months since Perfect World made the transition and this is turning into a playable game. I suggest trying the KDF faction once you unlock it at lvl25 as they have had some improvements and show a very dark and piratical side of the Star Trek universe; like duty officers committing ritual suicide, backstabbing various Federation captains and cannibalistic tribbles! Some of the trashed and seedy stations you venture into also feel right as a rough and ready KDF captain instead of a pristine doo-gooder Starfleet officer.

My new main is Ferhasen@arsonwulf and I'll post some pictures later from my Steam library.

Hmm... I may try this out again at some point. I paid for 2 years of subscription for it and barely paid for some reason. It wasn't a bad game either.

For those who want to get one....

Star Trek Online Cannibal Tribble Battery Farm Guide.

    1) Acquire a handful of various, cheap tribbles. They drop like crisp wrappers in a school playground and if you leave one in a bag with some food, they will eat the food and reproduce.

    2) Go to your bridge on your ship and take the turbolift down to the crew deck. Find the canteen room and talk to your chef. He will give you a Duty Officer mission called Baked Tribble.

    3) Assign a duty officer with the Chef attribute to the mission and ensure you have a tribble of the correct species in your bag (the NPC you talk to is lazy and doesn't actually cook anything!). The mission will tell you which species to use. I asked my fleet to help get my hands on a chef officer.

    4) Start the Duty Officer mission and wait for it to complete. If it is successful, you will get a stack of 3 baked tribbles in your bag.

    5) Split the 3 baked tribble items so they are occupying one square each (an inventory square can be accessed by only one tribble each hourly feeding turn so if the food is stacked, only one tribble would eat it. Spreading the food over three squares mean three tribbles can eat in a turn).

    6) Tribbles eat automatically on an hourly basis and three of the tribbles in your bag will become cannibals in the next feeding turn. Now the fun begins. Keep three cheap tribbles in the bag alongside the cannibals and have one stack of food for each cheap tribble. Field Rations from the Replicator will suffice, the cheaper the better.

    7) Check your bag after the next turn to find the cannibals have eaten three of the cheap tribbles and you have three Tribble Carcasses. The three cheap tribbles also eat the food during the turn and consume a food item each to make new tribbles before dying, leaving you with three more cheap tribbles in their place to balance the population. These three young tribbles then breed three more tribbles next turn before being eaten.

So long as the number of cannibals is equal to the number of livestock tribbles who in turn are equal to the number of food stacks in the bag then the system should automatically generate corpses every hour. For added fun, if you equip and pet a cannibal it will shriek at you then bite your now rather confused looking character.

I'm not sure if this works Federation side given their ethics but KDF don't care and give you dilithium in exchange for dead tribbles. It is also more fun then throwing them out the airlock. I also have no idea if cannibal tribbles will eat each other...
