I trialled it over the weekend just gone, spent a couple of hours on it and gave up in the end, cutscenes for quests became quite a frustrating thing for me (WoW player at heart) not a bad game, just not quite enough to hold my interest.
Yay!!! Just got an email saying that I am in this weekends testing too.... Friday 2nd Dec at 1pm CST (7pm UK time)...

Ditto... pity my Mum is coming to stay for the weekend...
I played last weekend's beta. It was OK, I found it a bit boring at times but managed to persist in getting my character up to level 10. Unfortunately for me it just doesn't warrant a monthly cost of £8.99. That's just madness! How can a game be worth that kind of money in the long-run?!! I just can't afford it, nor the massive amount of time you've gotta put in to make it worth-while/value for money, which is a big shame as I've been looking forward to this game for over a year.*sigh*
I'm away all weekend so another wait for me.
Think I'm slowly settling on a Trooper class.

You're not the target audience. Games like these are made for the people who will play all day, everyday, to get the best value for money.
The kind of people who, despite not working, can easily afford the cost of high-spec computers, the games and the associated subscription fees.
If I ever made a MMO, I'd let people use private servers.
Crikey some people must really not have a life, nor have to work (*wonders how they can afford it*). I loved the KotOR series, I just wish they'd released this as KotOR III rather than being a MMO. From what I played of it last weekend the MMO element was largely irrelevant and unnecessary (well for PvE at least). Bioware are on to a real money spinner here for those willing to pay over £100 a year to play a game. It's crazy! I don't think people appreciate the value of money to waste it on things like this, sorry.

And the reason why I never played it. I have played LotRO (for free) and got as far I could before I had to start paying to 'unlock' more content, which is better than monthly subs IMHO. I'd be very surprised if SWTOR doesn't do a free-to-play-up-to-a-certain-level deal, depending upon how successful the take up is I suppose. The only MMO I play is a browser game called Glory-Wars.net but then you can play that for free (not that I'm a skinflint, just that I'm skint and have to work all day).

Nothing wrong with a sub game if they keep it updated with new content, that's what the sub goes to (plus server maintenance). I dread to think how much I paid for WoW over the years, but worth it.
Free to Play is the big trend now as a lot of smaller MMO's can't command a sub fee to compete against the bigger titles. Me and a friend are predicting SWTOR to make this transition pretty quickly given what we have seen so far. Used to be seen as a mark of failure, now it's a big boost to income. Star Trek Online changes over soon, but that game was already using a F2P style store on top of a sub fee in a fine example of how to do it wrong! >.<
Ironically, the tiny MMO Vanguard is still subscription but I think SOE are trying to kill it off to muscle it out the way for Everquest. Hence no content for over a year and half.

Woot! Early access starts on Tuesday
Will finally get to play it after missing out on my beta invite.
Early access will be given to people based on when they redeemed their pre-order code.
Luckily I did it back in June when the game first appeared in the online stores![]()

Or, you know, students. Amazing how much spare time they have.
The other thing is, these games are very much value for money when you compare the cost to, say, cinema trips, going to the pub or buying dvds. Cost to benefit ratio is excellent even when paying £15 a month or whatever. When I was playing Eve online, I sometimes paid £40 a month for my various accounts. I got hundreds of hours of entertainment out of it though.
