Counter Strike: Global Operations - Early 2012

Awww maaaaaa gawwwwwd! New BF AND CS?!?!?!?!?!

VALVE ANNOUNCES COUNTER-STRIKE: GLOBAL OFFENSIVE (CS: GO)
    Announcement - Valve 12 Aug 2011
Next Gen Console, PC, and Mac Release Targeted for Early 2012

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).

Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo 2011.

If they do it without any DLC, itll be OK. If they start to introduce DLC and air strikes and nukes and stuff like that, it'll be just another clone of all other war games out today.

I think (hope) the guys developing it will no doubt be true to the CS roots and keep it as far away from the likes of COD as possible.

    I am excite!

This looks good, and with any luck true to the old games too. As far as I can see it's going to be multi platform. I can't begin to imagine how much fun it's going to be owning all these nubtards with controllers. BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHa
    bring it on!

Ohhhhhhhh yea!!!!! They have NO hope winning against a mouse & keyboard! Some people are so surgical with their weapons, they are almost as good as aimbots!!!!

I think for every kill made against a console player, this should flash up on their screen:

it will all depend on how they address accuracy. if they implement some sort of "near the player still hits the player" then it does even the field a bit, but no auto-aim correction and mouse will always be more accurate than a controller

We can only hope that there is no aim assist and/or a filter for servers to that effect!

CS Source did have it's recoil patterns and accuracy mechanics altered in a recent update. I wonder if it is related?

    Looking at the features though...

    - Leaderboards: Not needed
    - New maps: Not needed as CS is already moddable. Not welcome if it introduces DLC
    - Cross Platform: Not welcome and good luck getting the game networks to co-operate
    - Matchmaking: Not welcome for PC (look at MW2...)
    - New game modes: Yay!

Is it really going to be worth moving from Source to this? The CS community is already split between 1.6 and Source as it is without more splits.

Leaderboards are good for the console players
New maps, as far as I can see they have made new maps with far better scenery. Gonna look gert lush.
Cross platform is going to be great, if they get it right.
Matchmaking has always been fail, people always work out how to grief players worse than them!
Do you know which game modes these are? I wonder if they'll put the classics in as standard.

The best thing to come out of this is cross platform play.

    The game looks pants.
