    Angry Xbox KIA...

I don't believe it!!! The darn thing has red ringed itself to death AGAIN!!!.

This is the 4th time on that Xbox - if I didn't know someone who can fix it (and properly, not wrapping a towel round it and throwing it in the fire or whatever the latest daft youtube video reccomends!) - I would be seriously annoyed.

Wait, scratch that, I'm seriously annoyed anyway!! The motherboards been replaced twice, the heatsink twice, and I think IVe had 3 new procs. MS really need to get their solderability sorted...

Sorry, rant over - should this have been BTRD?

Nah mines outside even the extended warranty TBF.

Fortunately my step-granfather runs a little electronics business to avoid being drafted into working in his wife vegetable garden - he got himself all the official kit to fix them!!! Not sure if he's officially certified, but I think MS send some business his way so presumably he is...

It's not what you know - its who you know

this video guide is spot on

basically you need to refload a few chips on the MB

its not hard you need a heat gun and some thermal compound paste

The fix will take about an hour and a half that includes about 30 mins cooling time

The ps3 is very very well built

the fan inside is huge you will know what i mean when you open it up.

My tip is get four containers for the screws also a digital camera to take pictures of where things go i did the first time.

Also look very closely wher the rubber pads go on the board if you put them back in the wrong place you might short out the system.

Relatively straight forward to fix the RRoD. Have done it a few times myself. It's the useless X-clamps that cause the problem usually. Just a case of replacing them with the right sized screws and a bunch of washers. Has worked for me, that's how I ended up with one for free!

I thought the RROD was fixed FOC regardless of warranty as it was a recognised fault?
