Can you install and run wow on Linux without running Wine or any similar program? No, then it is against the EULA.
Who rattled your cage? :P
Depends on the distro. Some come with wine/cedega demo version. Other distros will ask you if you want to install them when you try and run a .exe and install them from the online repository.
BTW, WinXP doesn't come with DirectX9. So you can't play WoW on that out of the box either.
Wow comes with Direct X as do most games so therefore they are approved, do they come with WINE or the other?
Gosh disease. You really hate Linux.
Well I guess the site needed an anti-Geoff for balance
Bizzard are working on this. Seems they don't have prejudice to linux, wine or Cedga. More trolling from disease....
We have been testing our security software with Cedega. Cedega was used and tested before the security procedures and during the security procedures. From this testing we have yielded no hits, meaning Cedega, by itself, does not incur an account suspension.
We have accounts of several Cedega users who have been playing normally during the time that these processes are running. Again, these people are not being suspended simply because of using Cedega or Linux.
We are in contact with the people at Cedega and following up with them regarding individual accounts.
To answer the OP's question, no it is not against the ToS to use Linux or Cedega. We continue to monitor the situation to prevent cases of false positives and to rectify them if they do occur.

At least I have a vague semblance of evidence to back up what I'm on about.Originally Posted by NetworkGeezer

There is a difference in Trolling and Argueing about a point. WOW DID ban Linux users, for using Cedega or whatever it is called, I am stating a point not trolling. Using a 3rd party program IS against the EULA, read it, it's there. Geoff tried to claim that Windows users should be banned as Direct X 9 did not come with xp, no, but it is provided on the disk by Blizzard, and Geoff claimied he knew what he was on about, backed up by evidence.Originally Posted by Cybernerd
No they didn't. Both Cedega and Blizzard denied this, hence my accusation.WOW DID ban Linux users, for using Cedega or whatever it is called
Linux/Wine/Cedega doesn't meet the definition of a 3rd party application in the EULA which I read.Using a 3rd party program IS against the EULA, read it,
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/eula.htmlAN “UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM” AS USED HEREIN SHALL BE DEFINED AS ANY THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY “ADDON,” “MOD,” “HACK,” “TRAINER,” OR “CHEAT,” THAT IN BLIZZARD'S SOLE DETERMINATION: (i) ENABLES OR FACILITATES CHEATING OF ANY TYPE; (ii) ALLOWS USERS TO MODIFY OR HACK THE GAME INTERFACE, ENVIRONMENT, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IN ANY WAY NOT EXPRESSLY AUTHORIZED BY BLIZZARD; OR (iii) INTERCEPTS, “MINES,” OR OTHERWISE COLLECTS INFORMATION FROM OR THROUGH THE GAME. IN THE EVENT THAT THE GAME DETECTS AN UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM, THE GAME MAY (a) COMMUNICATE INFORMATION BACK TO BLIZZARD, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION YOUR ACCOUNT NAME, DETAILS ABOUT THE UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM DETECTED, AND THE TIME AND DATE THE UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM WAS DETECTED; AND/OR (b) EXERCISE ANY OR ALL OF ITS RIGHTS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT, WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE TO THE USER.
Well I personally can't see what the fuss is about. All this fuss over a silly RPG game! I would rather run around with a big gun mowing people down and hearing announcements such as 'KILLING SPREE!' and 'GODLIKE!' I don't remember having to use Cedegar for it either! LOL
Suicide Penguins laden with mucho explosives march into Microsoft HQ and BOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!
Oops having read Trangaming.org I submit to your will and Admit I was wrong.
I must agree with NetDiag on that one 8)
I'm fairly sure I've seen a WoW addon that'll add these 'UT Style' announcements to the game if you wish to make it more like a FPS. You can selectively enable it for PVP/PVE/Raiding.I would rather run around with a big gun mowing people down and hearing announcements such as 'KILLING SPREE!' and 'GODLIKE!'
Just to update, Blizzard has been emailing and unbanning some users. Here's the message they are emailing:
As you know, Blizzard Entertainment traditionally makes a serious commitment to protect the World of Warcraft community from players who gain unfair advantage through hacks and exploits. Last week, our administrators implemented bans on a large number of accounts that were identified acting against the terms and the spirit of the game.
However, it has since come to our attention that a very small percentage of those accounts should not have been banned. This case of mistaken identity seems to be isolated to users of an unsupported, Linux-based Windows emulator called Cedega.
Once this pattern was brought to Blizzard's attention, our staff worked directly in conjunction with the Cedega development team in a rigorous and thorough review of the situation. We have since determined that your account was one of those accidentally flagged, and as such we are immediately reinstating your account to fully playable status.
Blizzard Entertainment deeply regrets the error, as we understand that this brief account closure presented you with an inconvenient and highly frustrating experience. We remain firmly committed to enforcing our regulations and suspensions for those exploiting our game, in the interest of ensuring that our legitimate customers have the best possible play experience. In this case, however, we regretfully caught a handful of innocent customers in the process, and for that we offer you our genuine apology.
In consideration of our error, we are applying a credit of two weeks play time
onto your account, in addition to crediting back the time that your account was locked. This comes to a total of twenty (20) days credit, which should be visible on your account within the end of the week.
If you have any other questions or concerns regarding this account, please do not hesitate to let us know. We appreciate your extraordinary patience in this matter and hope you will continue to enjoy your time in World of Warcraft.
