Meets all the requirements I think!
Track Mania
OK, a little bored so I thought I'd start this one off. The rules are these:
1. Must be free
2. Must be installable (not online i.e Flash based games), unless they have online play modes)
3. Windows XP and above only
4. Linux and Mac games may also be posted
5. Good playability is a must. Any rubbish games will be ridiculed.
6. Remakes are allowed and even encouraged
7. Must have a valid download link provided
Right, to kick off then, my choice is Oolite. A bang up to date remake of elite with all of the origional maps, ships and gameplay. There are also a host of down loadable add-ons and mission packs as well as extra ships etc. A great way to swallow up several hundred spare hours!

This one's blocked at work - can't think why
Quake Live
Can you clarify whether this would rule out Enemy Territory as it has an online (or do you mean offline) play mode is installable but it is online only.2. Must be installable (not online i.e Flash based games), unless they have online play modes)

Just about anything from Synthetic Reality, but particularly Warpath. Still as entertaining today as it was when I was a kid.
