Or maybe they get bored because all they get to play is demo's?!

we are starting this after half term (ish) have a look at americas army.

its free and you can run the server stuff in school as well

might be slightly contentious being a US army rectuitment tool but chances are the kids wont be able to tell the difference between that and Call of Duty.

Multiplayer games aren't really limited much in demo terms as you can always download the user created maps to extend the map lists....

Quake Arena is what we're planning on trying.

    Had to edit;

    • Taunts - No Swearing
    • Skins - No Semi Naked Spider Ladies
    • Blood - No Blood
    • Flags - To Our School Logo

We are as yet to try it out yet - but we have up to a possible of 60 machines to use for an after school LAN Event. Should be really good fun - especially since me and my fellow technician have some great even battles when it's 1v1

There is no finer way for teenagers to while away the hours, then playing with trains.

I remember a couple of years ago when I was a ICT Technician at another school...........we had a spare Toshiba Desktop computer laying around, I chucked some extra RAM in it and turned it into a Unreal Tournament 99 Server

I had about 4 or 5 UT Servers running off it, Capture the Flag, Death Match etc it was wicked, used to get about 30 kids on there after school and kick there bums

sadly......it did come to an end.......

A legal and open source game for kids above the age of 12 is America's Army if you are after a shooter. it is stated in the legal bits on the site, but i have not checked it for a year as i moved schools and we don't have the facilities here yet

but for things like UT3 if i remember correctly you will need a license per computer you want to run it on.

Whilst americas army is good for a shooter, the kids will get annoyed at the fact that they are not able to re-spawn when dead until the round is over. I have a level 97 honor account after 3 years, and its still as tedious now as it was then. And I think the kids will go mental as they cant play as well as they could on say COD4 / BF2.

But as a game, it is a good one for free!

Aye, it did annoy the kids at first. Then they figured out working together and strategy keep them alive longer but they really did get into it and didn't seem to mind the waiting then
