With all due respect there is no such thing as 'half HD' It is either HD or it is not.

HD is defined as 720p (1280×720) or higher.

The Xbox 360 can output SD, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

The Xbox 360 can also do 640×480, 848×480, 1024×768, 1280×720, 1280×768, 1280×1024, and 1360×768 resolution via VGA as well.

You should try and match the output to the native resolution of the display as this will yield the best picture.

Well, there is no half HD but there are two standards thanks to Sony. There is 'HD' which is 720p and there is 'full HD' which is 1080p. HDMI is another 'standard' that Sony has meddled with and rewritten 4 times already with version 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2a and 1.3.

You should be able to get sound through HDMI though as outlined here:

Thanks all for your input, ive bought an elite last night and got it running at home on the aforementioned television.

Now a question i have, with all these hd resolutions flying about, which is the best?

I have the xbox running at its max that the tv will let me (1080i) - whats the diff between 1080i and 1080p?

This page answers it

HD TV explained - Misco.co.uk

Your TV (from what you said earlier) can do 720p or 1080i. Which you use is really a matter of personal preference. I prefer 720p on mine.

I run my xbox at 720p

Progressive is better for games than interlaced!

I'll add you to my buddies. I've just got COD4, but I'm pants at it (at the moment!)
