    We had the opportunity to chat with Albert Penello, senior director of product planning at Microsoft this afternoon, who was kind enough to clarify a few topics for us regarding the recently-unveiled Xbox One. One thing we were quick to ask about was the integrated storage. 500GB sounds like a lot today -- but so did the 20GB unit in the original Xbox 360. The HDD there was, at least, replaceable. Can you do the same with its successor? Sadly, no. Hard drives in the Xbox One are non-user-serviceable, but Penello confirmed that the USB 3.0 port is there for external storage, which can be used for everything the internal storage can be used for. That includes game installs and downloads. So, don't fret: adding storage will be just as easy as ever. (Source)

    I see there will be a fee to install pre-owned games. I guess that explains EA's decision to do away with online passes.

    That makes sense, I thought I misheard them saying 5Gb of RAM during the presentation. What I want to know is, out of the remaining 5Gb is any reserved for the GPU/GPU restricted to using 1Gb or 2Gb?

    I ask because the PS4 is rumoured to reserve 1Gb for OS and the other 7Gb can be divide up however developers choose with both CPU and GPU being able to access all portions of RAM simultaneously.

    Enough said, everyone here understands numbers don't mean everything.

    The server next to me has 16 and it's not as quick as my station with 2.

    Well done, the console your pining after shouldn't exist now and only does because people keep putting money in their pockets to do so.

    I look behind me and see an ultra SFF lenovo workstation that's capable of serious performance. There's nothing in there that can't be built into a TV enclosure. Slap a GPU in a unified architecture and why the hell are we pining after xboxes and playstations for silly money. Because we're letting them let us.

    Exactly, which is why I think the PS4 is a compelling product next to custom build PC's.

    Aye i'm also keen to get more information on this. I assume the 3gb is for all of the 'snapping' and 'multi-functioning' that you can do on this great new xbox. I'd also like to know if it's possible to disable features to free up RAM on the OS, should it be needed.

    Also, they mention a 8 core processor, but who's 8 core will Xbox be using? Also keen to hear more on this.

    Everything that has been asked directly, has either been feathered away, or contradicted on multiple scales from MS at the moment. As a Xbox Fan Boy, i'm not happy. Sony don't have to do much for me to swap over this time, unless MS announce something extraordinary... other than this console...

    Which is why 8Gb of GDDR5 in the PS4 was surprising. Consoles can also be heavily optimised.
