Well I just preordered one, can't get the forza bundle here which is rubbish as now I get a pointless copy of FIFA that I will probably never play. Still $700 now so only 50 more than the ps4 and I can use it with media too which is something I do tonnes of, everything with an hdmi port that I own can do dlna and switching devices to quickly bang a picture or mp3 up is insane.
Now that I like...
During a session at the GDC Next conference in Los Angeles, Microsoft’s John Bruno spoke in-depth about the Xbox Live Compute system. While it’s based on Microsoft’s Azure technology, it has been modified specifically to fit the Xbox One‘s needs as a platform. Games like Forza Motorsport 5 will use the technology to enhance certain aspects of the game, but that comes at a cost. Bruno specifically notes that “once in a while, rather frequently actually, the host OS will require an update, meaning the physical machine is going to get rebooted, whether your code is running or not.” If the connection is dropped, or the server completely reboots, you could potentially lose progress in your game. Xbox Live Compute represents one of the ways that games will be better on Xbox One. This service is specifically designed to enable game creators to utilize the scalable computing resources that Microsoft deploys within our regional datacenters, to enhance their game experiences beyond what is generally possible with the finite resources of a console. (Source)So, why did we build Xbox Live Compute? When we were planning the next generation of Xbox Live, we spent a lot of time talking with game creators about ways to make games better. We realized that there was an incredible opportunity to bring together the resources and global scale of Windows Azure, with the game services of Xbox Live to build a cloud computing platform that was uniquely focused on gaming and game creators. Our intent was to enable developers to take advantage of server resources in their games without having to deal with the challenges that come with building, managing and running servers at scale.
The Machinima snap app looks like it could be good as well.
One of the first things “Xbox, Snap Machinima” will do is offer curated videos from our catalog based on the current game you’re playing. These videos will provide everything from game walk-throughs, game reviews, help videos and more. Additionally, we’ll offer an enhanced Snap experience, also known as “Machinima Wingman,” for a select number of Xbox One titles that will provide richer, custom-created and exclusive videos to complement gameplay experiences and offering everything from in-game help and tutorials to strategy videos.
