Actually when you adjust for inflation current games prices are the cheapest they have ever been!

possibble but the £60 a game is too rich for my blood i object to £40 now. If a game is effectively locked to one user making it much much harder to copy then surely the "subsidy" that legitimate buyers make should be reduced as they should be copied less

I know. You could also do it on the 360 and the PS3.

The problem isn't the price, it is the excessive number of broken promises and release flops that make paying full price for a title not worth the experience that you get. Games are now published incomplete, charged with an "impatience tax" to capture the initial heavy flow of users and they are rewarded with a rubbish experience as servers crash and giant patches get released to patch gaping holes. Wait for a title to drop and it has likely stabilised and been patched.

Please tell me the last time you played an MMO on release day (this includes those cheeky "Open Beta" days before a token release date by name only) and were able to actually play without hassle?

Then you find out that after paying a high entry price, some publishers STILL want more money from you with a cash shop or transition it to free. I've been burned too many times on these (yes that includes STO which I paid for shortly after release pre-F2P). -.-

I agree entirely. But the counter arguement is "how much does it cost to produce a AAA game?". A couple of hundred people working 3-4 years?

And the counter to that is either:

    A) How about you stop paying them insane amounts of money?

or B) How about you learn to manage your budgets better?

And to counter that - "Fine, but well only give you more games like AC:III"

But, seriously, if an indie game made by one guy sells better than a AAA title with a $10 SQUILLION budget... Something is wrong.

Likewise, if your AAA game is regarded a failure even though it sold a bazillion copies, something is wrong. [Apparently bazillion is a real word... the more you know.]

@X-13: Clue is in the name - indie.

Publishers slap an enormous expense and business ethic on top of development studios who can't afford to distribute and publicize the titles themselves. Developers work slave hours for slave wages as development takes over more and more of their life just to get shafted by the publisher (again) and abused by the fanbase over bugs typically introduced by the publisher's demands and changes. It's possibly one of the worst professions to be in unless you really love developing games.

    Exactly.

If an INDIE studio has a higher profit margin than a AAA studio, then the AAA studio needs to re-evaluate what it's doing. Which includes telling publishers where to stick their demands.

It is, but ubisoft can burn in hell for their terrible engines, hours of tutorials even though its sequel, boring gameplay, annoying advertsing and the worst thing ever UPLAY!!!!!!! (I may or may not have ordered watch_dogs for ps4)

I made £1,500 in royalties on a game that sold over 5m units.

They're Canadian, they'd probably be OK with it.

but if say 1/2 were pirated before now its 10% surely that means they can make more money selling it cheaper so its even less worth pirating while being harder to pirate
