I'll buy the new Xbox simply because I DO like gaming on a console and all the friends I game with are non-pc gamers. I've been brought up playing local multiplayer games and you don't really get that from PC.
Always online doesn't bother me, I'm always online now be it on PC, Xbox, PS3 or my PSP. If I don't have an internet connection, I do something else. Not too sure about Illumiroom though.
I will however, still play my PC more, I've just got a lot more games on it to play Steam deals are insane, meaning I always end up buying more games. I find a keyboard and mouse easier to use for anything that isn't a hack and slash or racer, and even then I've been playing them on PC recently with a wireless xbox controller and the M$ wireless adapter.
tl;dr - buying neXtbox, probably gather dust after 6 months, except for the odd multiplayer session every now and then.
I got an Xbox 360 free with a mobile contract a few years ago. I loved it at the time, and playing GTA online with mates was epic. Plus N or Arcade was amazing! I just hated paying to play online, plus everyone stopped playing it (not to mention wife agro from hogging the TV) so sold it and went back to PC.
The one thing I really do like though is Microsoft's Xbox controller. Bought one for my PC and use it for the likes of GRID, Batman and Assassins Creed.
Only way that would be a remotely level playing field is if the consoles have the "targeting assist" aimbot that they all need to be playable, and that would just result in people having "quick scoping skills"
consoles > PC for sports/beatemup/driving (without a wheel)
PC > consoles for everything else
And that's mainly due to the controller vs keyboard/mouse and you can always buy a controller for the PC.
The last 2 360's I've bought, were the Halo: Reach and the Halo 4 limited edition boxes.
Unless I see a huge difference in specs between the new Xbox and PS4, I'm currently thinking about buying a PS4..
Thinking about it, I've "skipped" during generations.. from Sony (PS2), to MS (Xbox360)..
I think the biggest factor, will always be what my friends are going to be buying!
PS: I'm playing Pokémon on my 3DS XL rather than 360 atm :P

I can't believe this is still going on! Well I can really it's been going on for more than 25 years in one form or another.
I'll keepy buying Xbox whilst Halo is on it as I'm hooked!
I also love pro evo and the batman games (with the controller I'm awesome at batman)
Everything else I prefer on PC though. I couldn't imagine Total War Games on Consoles these days.
Bungie led the way and now 343 are taking the game to places I always hoped it would go.
And they're taking all the literature as cannon and using the novels to dictate the game storyline which is nice.
I was chuffed to bits with four, up there as possibly the best yet.
Can give an exception to playing Pokemon. A true Mans game. lol
However Four very nearly had the same effect. It's simply incredible. I had no idea the xbox could look that good & play that well at the same time
