With the PS3 not selling as well as expected and the XBox being cheaper, they can't afford for the PS4 to over £400 really.

and rumours are that PS are waiting for XBox to bring there new one out to reveal their design.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is stupid? PS got hacked quite easily a few times over the last few years, but now they've brought out a system "you can play someone else's game if they are stuck", is this not just asking to be hacked right there??

I'm not sure that is quiet right. Sony made a big thing last night of saying this is a console designed by developers, for developers. Their design decisions make a lot of sense in that light. There is nothing special about GDDR5 compared to DDR3, ram is ram, other than it is faster - which is why Sony used it. Devs prefer unified Ram so they can set how much the cpu and gpu has access to for their individual game requirements, thats what Sony have done. Devs prefer the x86 instruction for obvious (pc) reasons, so thats what Sony have used.

PS3 has sold over 1m this year so far, xbox tops 600k. The whole hacking thing doesnt seem to have done much in terms of sales.

That depends on whether you count dedicated or shared RAM...

There's going to be two PS4's apparently...

... Sony plans on launching with two models – a high-end $529 SKU (£343) machine and an entry-level $429 (£278) machine. All models will ship with a PlayStation Eye. (Source)

I don't think we will see UltraHD Blu-ray's for a while, although the PS4 will support some 4k content...

PS4 will support 4K for 'personal content' like photos and video, but not games « Polygon

and how many PCs that 4gb dedicated video ram plus access to 16GB of system ram?

Steam stats have 1GB as the most popular video ram configuration at 34%. Popular system ram is 4GB at 22%. The amount of PCs with access to 6-7GB of fast video ram is right now quite small, even more so with spare system ram and at variable speeds. This is the problem with PC development, the baseline is low and the top end well beyond the affordable for the majority. Make it for the top end only and your target audience is very small. PS4 will also push the baselines on PC games and this is a good thing.

    Not many.

8GB RAM isn't far behind at 21.8%. IIRC, when I had 8GB RAM my PC could use around 4GB of system RAM for graphics.

My internet speed would get dropped to about 20% if I tried to download something that big... Virgin's traffic management [AKA "give us more money to stop us doing this"] sucks.

As great as graphics are, it still comes down to gameplay. Delta Force 2 was a great game in my view, but had wobbly graphics. Didn't stop me replaying it though.

Graphics have their place - this sort of graphical engine has a place in feature film like games - things like LA Noire or Skyrim. They'd be absolutely amazing looking like that. But in an FPS? I don't really care too much.

No doubt next gen consoles will be offering similar impressive visuals. Has been said before it boils down to a) the type of game you prefer playing, and b) the environment you like playing in.

I associate PC gaming with small but very hi res screens, 2.1 sound, keyboards, mice and sitting at a desk. Console games are 40" TVs, surround sound, gamepads and relaxing on the sofa. I prefer the later

Besides I'm still blown away by XBox 1 graphics, The PS3 often leaves me gobsmacked. God knows how mind blown I'll be by the PS4/XBox 720.
