Very cool but not really sure its worth the effort and the cost (assume there's an extra cost for this) to set it up.

    My thoughts

That does appear to be running on a standard Xbox 360.

I would guess in the room scanning stage it identifies the TV and the projector then avoids projecting an image over the TV

I like the idea, but it will only work at night or in a dark room with light coloured walls.
We all use projectors daily... could be expensive to run and maintain.

Saying that, I do want one lol!!

That looks a HELL of a lot better than 3D. Although that's not difficult. 3D is ****.

I wonder how they'll package this, they could either sell an adaptor and allow us to purchase a projector to suit/use one we already have or force everyone to buy a "special" projector...

a half decent projector is going to cost around £400-500, if they go the special route I can't see them using a brilliant one as they probably wouldn't sell many

They don't make you use special TVs so unless it required some special additional components it'll probably just be standard projectors.

My money is on it being like Kinect. Standard hardware [from what I can see of the actual Kinect hardware] repackaged and sold at a premium. While it would be possible to use "compatible" products, they're only compatible for as long as Microsoft allow it.

Also, the scanning part looks like it needs special hardware. Probably an upgrade to the projector.

It depends on what you mean by premium, the kinect hardware before mass, uniform production would have cost me at least a couple of thousand dollars. On special I got hit for the princely sum of $100 nz, probably 35p in your counties currency. If it is specialty and an add on it is likely it will be priced as an accessory hence just above impulse buy price point.

MSR stuff while epic only comes to market every so often, the ideas though end up embedded in all sorts of stuff, long term stuff mainly. They usually work at least five to ten years in the future, from a release point of view. It's probably where apple gets all it's ideas that aren't from Intel.

Kinect here [With animals and another game "free"] is ~£90.

£90 for a glorified webcam. [I know... It does more. shush.]

I've seen a non microsoft one for about £13. But, I wouldn't trust it to work.

I used to be very pro Apple, but more and more im seeing less innovation from them and more attempts to patent others ideas for profit.

I've even moved from iPhone to S3 and its a much better product.

My point, its good to see innovation instead of lawsuits.

The tech itself was developed by an external company who were brought by ms who handed it over to MSR that added several hundred thousand hours of supercomputer time and expert systems algorythyms to make it us able within the processor constraints of the Xbox 360. They also brough both mass production and mass market to the equation making the bits cheap enough to be practical.

Re signature, I try, I couldn't lie to everyone, it would be wrong :-)
