Adding a second email domain to Exchange 2010
Think I have got my head round this almost, but if fellow edugeeks can sanity check I would be most grateful:
School went academy status early this year, so SMT wished to have a shorter email address, this is at the moment @myschool.surrey.sch.uk.
I have bought from 123.reg a domain called @myschool.co.uk
We use our email through smarthosts, antispam etc by our ISP. They have given me the MX records that I need to put into 123.reg control panel,ok with all of this except:
What do I put for the A record that points to my Exchange 2010 server? instincts tell me it should still be mail.myschool.surrey.sch.uk since it's pointing to the external IP address for my Exchange 2010 server at present. is this best prectice and would this effect SPAM lookups since mail records might not match? Or do I need to plan on changeing this to mail.myschool.co.uk for my Exchange Server?
Also once this is done I presume I need to:
a) Add myschool.co.uk as an authoritive domain in hub tranport
b) add an email address policy so users have the correct email domain and format and a new defualt reply address
The other thing that I might have done easier was to find a way of entering the new address to exisiting users in Exchange EMC , we did it manually, but it was only 150 mailboxes
