Duplicate E-mails sending through OWA

We are currently running Exchange 2003 on SBS2003.

Although we plan to migrate to SBS2011 / Exchange 2010 within the next 2-3 months there is an issue one of our users has which I'd like to resolve in the meantime.

The user accesses their E-mail via OWA when not in the office. The problem that she has is that she will send an E-mail and the browser returns to the Inbox. Quite often the recipient of that E-mail receives 2, 3, 4, 5 or even 6 copies of the E-mail. They're all timed at the same time and the Message ID's move up in sequence. If she looks in her Sent Items she will see all of the sent copies.

It seems to be quite random, it doesn't do it to all E-mails sent, just some. This is happening on two difference PC's that the user has (1 laptop, 1 windows tablet) and happens no matter which browser is used so I don't believe the problem is at her side so I need to troubleshoot it on Exchange.

Anybody heard of this before or any suggestions as to the likely cause?

check transport rules for any oddness, not sure where they are in 2k3 or if they even exist.

I'd be surprised, if you have any AV/Email filtering on the exchange server disable this and test.

Same for the User's devices.

Bumping this one back up to see if anybody else has heard of it before as I've not been able to find a solution.

This happens on the user's home PC, home laptop and Windows Tablet. It is so random, it hasn't done it for a month or two and then its happened a couple of times this week.

Do you have any third party software running like a Disclaimer type where it puts a bit on the bottom?

Also is this the only user that is using OWA that it is happening to?

What happens if you or someone else sends an email from that machine, is it related to just one email address the user is sending to or multiple?

Finally for the moment does it happen in Outlook?

It seemz as if the user maybe hitting refresh, have yiu seen the issue 1st hand youraelf?


ForDifficulty is that yiu cany reproduce the issue right?

The message is actually being several times and yiu can see this in the sent items, when AV is typically involved you dont see that.


You say yiu have tried other browsers, which ones?

It only affects the one user, and doesn't happen if the mail is sent through Outlook, only ever happens when sent through OWA. There's no pattern to it at all. Has been replicated in both Chrome and IE9 and on two different machines. No 3rd party software putting disclaimers on or anything like that.

Starting to think it might be better to back the mail up and wipe the mailbox and then re-create.
