Backup exec problem
Having an issue backing up local storage, I have around 1TB of data which is constantly DFSRd from one storage location to another, i'm trying to run the backups locally at the other end.
I've setup a job just to backup this data and nothing else, when i run it or do a test run it says the byte count is only 1,120 and it was successful....
This is on Server 2008R2 using backup exec 2010R3, symantec tape drivers on an ultrium 1840 and LTO4 tapes and the storage is directly connected via SCSI to the box i'm running backup exec on. It must be something to do with not being able to see the data but i can't think what as it can see it all in the selection lists etc.
EDIT: the root folder of the storage is set to hidden and i don't appear to be able to change that, could that cause it?
EDIT: if i look at a restore job i can see the folder structure of the root bunch of folders but no files or other folders within them ¬_¬ except the "dfsrprivate" entity
What you need to do is select the Folders you want to backup through the DFS replicated structure, rather than the folders directly. Due to the meta data created when using DFS replication you can't select those folders as you would other unreplicated folders.
So what you need to do is, in your selection list you need to select the folders which are located in: Server Name -> Shadow Copy Components -> User Data -> DFS Replication -> DFSr Replicated Folders.
They should then backup successfully.
Ahhhhh thank you very much Luke_T, worked a treat :) Fingers crossed my next load of backups go swimmingly now then.
