Outlook Web App 2010 - The server operation timed out. Please try again later
A large number of our staff have been experiencing the error below (see screenshot)

for over a week now and I seem to be getting no where in terms of fixing it. Things i've tried:
Resetting the OWA VD
Ensuring clients are up to date with Windows Updates
Uninstalled Sophos (as a temp measure to see if that is contributing to it)
I've spotted this error in eventvwr on the CAS server, but not really sure if it's related or not as there are not too many of them.
Watson report about to be sent for process id: 8716, with parameters: E12, c-RTL-AMD64, 14.01.0218.015, OWA, unknown, unknown, System.InvalidOperationException, 0, unknown.
Does anybody have any ideas about what might be causing this or any suggestions for troubleshooting?
We are using Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3.
