    System Center 2012 - Client Deployment

    Hello all,

    We recently installed System Center 2012 Config Manager to one of our ESX Hosts, with the hope that during our switchover to Win7 in the near future it will take the place of Classlink7 and Sophos.

    Now, its all running fine. The AD Schema extension went without a hitch (apart from the "I cant look" moment as I hit enter to run it), which may seem helpful to those on the borderline of running the ExtADSch.exe included with SCCM.

    Now, to business. The client's wont deploy. Either via Push from the Configuration console, or via manual install from the network share. I think it would be easier to list what I have done instead of trying stuff i've done already.
    - Push does not work. I have added the domain admin in the DCOM configuration for remote launching & access. No joy.
    - Client installs over network share if done manually, but System Center does not pick it up. The logs yield something about its failiure to register with the system. I can try and post some of the offending log tomorrow.
    - All MS' TechNet setup guides and checklists have been followed to the word.

    Thanks alot man,

    Its not like, "We need this tomorrow" vital, but it would be nice to get the client (and any settings that we need to make it work) for our Win7 Deployment image.
    Once I get WDS to work. But thats another story

    If the install is working but the client is not being picked up in the console that could be down to the Boundaries and Boundary Groups not being configured correctly. What have you got set for your Boundaries and are they added to a Boundary Group?

    Also what do the ccmsetup and client.msi log files have in them?

    I have noticed a number of people who havent setup Boundary Groups and getting this issue. Might be worth a look there.

    For a number of laptops that don't get the client deployed correctly, we deploy the Ccmsetup.msi through GPSI and then use the GPOs from the CD to configure site option for the client

    On a client you have tried to deploy the client to go to c:\windows\ccmsetup and go to ccmsetup.log. Near the bottom you may have an Ssl error. Let me know what the log says.

    Also make sure you check firewall - usually a stumbling point there (both client and server, make sure client firewall is properly set up with GPO).

    Incidentally, when you push an update/package/application, use cmtrace.exe (on the sccm installation media)to view logfiles live - check the relevant logs for distribution points, smsts.log (if its a task sequence) and what-not to see what's going on live.

    Sorry for the lack of replies. I will take a look at boundary groups now and see if I can deploy a client.

    Edit: Right, i've got a boundary group called Global that is setup with the SCCM server as the distro point, and it has our domain site as the boundary. Once I get my Win7 reference machine joined upto the domain, I will attempt the deployment via push (Although I will mostlikely either distribute the working client setup + Endpoint protection with our reference image or via a GPO login script).

    Updates soon.

    Right, totally wiped and started again. All installed on a fresh base. Getting both errorcodes 53 & 1326.

    Any ideas?

    I've seen 53 on some of my clients, primarly when you push the client to a machine which isn't on. When you start the push, look in the ccm.log and you should start to see lines like this:

    ---> Connected to administrative share on machine RM075-A using account xxx
    ---> Attempting to make IPC connection to share <\\RM075-A\IPC$>
    ---> Searching for SMSClientInstall.* under '\\RM075-A\admin$\'
    ---> System OS version string "6.1.7601" converted to 6.10
    ---> Creating \ VerifyingCopying exsistance of destination directory \\RM075-A\admin$\ccmsetup
    ---> Copying client files to \\RM075-A\admin$\ccmsetup.
    ---> Copying file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\I386\MobileClient.tcf"
    ---> Copying file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\I386\ccmsetup.exe"
    ---> Created service "ccmsetup" on machine "RM075-A".
    ---> Started service "ccmsetup" on machine "RM075-A"
    ---> Deleting SMS Client Install Lock File '\\RM075-A\admin$\SMSClientInstall.RCA'
    Execute query exec [sp_CP_SetLastErrorCode] 2097152153, 0
    ---> Completed request "2097152153", machine name "RM075-A".

    At this point look in the C:\Windows\ccmsetup directory on the machine where you should have the files required for the install. Do you have those files?

    If you do and the install still isn't happening, then I think you need to post the ccmsetup.log and client.msi.log files so we can have a look and see what might be going wrong. If you don't have those files, there should be lines in the ccm.log file (on the server) which should point to the problem.

    Im seeing almost immediantly "Machine Account". I cant find a way to add a "Client installation account" anywhere though.

    That suggests to me that the machine account for the configmgr server is not part of the local administrators group on the client machine. In configmgr, goto Administration, Site Configuration, Sites. Then on the ribbon, click on Client Installation Settings. What have you got under the Accounts tab?

    Right, I was being retarded and had not noticed that "Client installation settings" button, hidden away in the depths of the mysterious ribbon.
    Ive added the domain admin account for the time being to make sure it works, im now getting this:

    After a bit of reading, Im seeing this could well be the problem:

    ---> Unable to connect to WMI on remote machine "DEPASST4-PC", error = 0x800706ba. $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><05-25-2012 09:25:09.164-60><thread=2676 (0xA74)>
    Its happening for the PC's that are turned on and in the network currently. The ones that just come up as 5 or 53 are offline is my guess.

    Is the firewall enabled on those clients?
