I've got a whole load of machines (like 10) which have decided they don't like my KMS host - when trying to activate the clients I get
"0xC004F038
The software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. The count reported by your Key Management Service (KMS) is insufficient. Please contact your system administrator."
I've got 700 clients registered through it and they all work!

20th April 2012, 12:42 AM #2 Chuck the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) 2.0 tool onto the KMS server and add the machines into it and try to manually activate.
Also run the following command "slmgr.exe /dlv" to check the count level.

20th April 2012, 07:32 AM #3 Done that its what reported the error in a readable format! The count is something like 2300 although I'm not sure why as we only have 900 machines - I guessed its when they updated after 6months

20th April 2012, 08:02 AM #4 How strange, and yes you're right.
Can you activate any new machines at all?
What's the output of "slmgr.vbs -dli" ?

20th April 2012, 08:21 AM #5 It appears to be machines trying to re-activate rather then new ones so I wondering whether its a client side issue rather then a Server side issue (not sure what though!)

27th April 2012, 02:47 PM #8 Have you tried a slmgr.vbs -rearm and slmgr.vbs -ato
I'm not sure where you found out you have 2300 activations... that seems, odd (unless VAMT tells you)
When you run dli, the highest value against "count" will only ever by 50. The rest is *everything* since you activated KMS.

When you open up VAMT you can check online to see how many activations IT RECKONS have being used of a product.
