if fope is free then i would use that, or you could deploy an edge server in the dmz if you wish for email screening.

    Hi

How do you download / setup ms forefront for free?we are a secondary school just setting up exchange and this sounds perfect to filter the spam and viruses. Just can't see where to get it or start running it.

    Cheers

You don't download it; it's hosted!

Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange

I would speak to your licensing reseller, as I only know about how to get it via Live@edu and Office 365 for education.

We recently switched to a Fortimail appliance. The performance is excellent and the price was spot on. We went with the base device - the 100C which can handle 80K messages per hour.

That's good news, hopefully means it'll go through smoothly on our EES this year after the nightmare we had last time with VLSC not enabling it

How do you actually get FOPE free for education. I have been contacting microsoft and all they keep saying is email them a link where it says it is free from their website.

    Cheers

Haven't tried it, but send them this SKU to look up: 74H-00045

Just found that in an alleged MS 2012 EES Agreement price list and it's the only entry which doesn't have a price.

Some that I have come across (no recommendations though) for cloud / externally hosted filtering of inbound and outbound mail traffic (but not between users) include EMF by WebRoot, MailMarshal by M86 and Messagelabs.

What Anti-Virus do you run? The likes of McAfee etc have started pushing the spam filtering to the cloud bundled with products.
