    De-fragmentation of the Exchange data store

    How do I find out the fragmentation of the Exchange 2007 data store whilst it is on line?

    1. You should see a event ID 1221 showing the white space. It runs at the completing of the maintence windows.

    When you run a full backup it also runs a log trim which then triggers an online defragmentation.

    1. White space will automatically be used, if you mean you want to recliam space, are you referring to the actual physical size of the edb file?
    2. If yes, what I'd suggest you do is create a new mailbox DV, move the users across and delete.
    3. You can run eseutil and defrag but I wouldn't, you will need downtime, more storage and it has more of a chance failing.
