    Weird Papercut printing issue?

    Hi all,

We have recently put in Papercut on a Win2008 r2 VM and all in all working quite well

The only odd problem I had was when a new teacher sends a print to her network printer (linked to Papercut using the Papercut port) her print disappears, no hard copy.

I link her back to the old print server and it worked, so got round the issue

Now if I log on as admin or another teacher on that PC and print through Papercut it works. The problematic teacher has the same permissions as other teachers.

Now I found out the new year 7s, which are newly created after we put in Papercut also have the same issue...other year groups print perfectly ok

    Anybody had this issue before?

Have you made sure that the users are within PaperCut. Sometimes the AD sync doesn't work to the best, so I tend to run a manual sync (given it's not really a system heavy thing to do) when I've set up new users.

The other thing to check is if you're using the groups within papercut that they're picking up the right settings and assigning users to the right permissions and such within it's own system. I had an interesting one where I moved the user OU - basically to tidy everything up over the summer and what not - but forgot to tell PaperCut, so it took me a while to figure out why the new staff weren't adding even with the manual sync.

To do a manual sync (and indeed to check the settings) load up papercut (http://<server>:9191/app) > log in > Click Options then User/Group Sync and check the settings and press Synchronize Now.

Turn off the print provider service and see if the same thing happens. That will help you see if papercut is stopping the job somewhere.

    Thanks all

I think being a noob to Papercut I have missed out the following things:

The OU was not added to Papercut
The individual teacher who had the issue was set to 'Restricted' with no personal credit

Have made these adjustments and will find out whether it prints, thank you all for the suggestions.,

You can change the settings. If there in a OU within AD there papercut should give them defaults credits (you can change this)
For us, Staff get +20 everymonth and the pupils get reset back to 5

Thank you all for your Sage advice

    All seems ok now

One quick question, I am implementing students to print through a shared queue for Papercut compatible copiers soon, I know I install a client for users with multiple cost codes to chose from, but if a students goes to one big shared account at the moment, do I need this Papercut client installed on student PCs?

At some point though they will switch to credit and individual charging (they use Mifare cards)

You need the client software for certain "account selection" options

but you can set a user to charge to a single shared account, this wont require the client. Basically you only need the client to provide feedback (select a shared account / confirm a print job etc)
