SCCM 2012 - Multicasting
I have been Multicasting with SCCM via PXE. Works well, but does seem to takes ages compared to unicast. Anyway its not so bad at the moment, we can live with that as they are done over night.
Does anyone have any experience Multicasting without PXE? Basically an advertisement to a collection. I am just thinking make the TS required and assign the policy on a schedule and set that to a specific time. Or instead of a specific time make it so i deploy it outside a maintenance Window, and as soon ans the Window reaches they start the OSD.
Should that work?

Multicast is complicated.
You need igmp v3 querier and listener enabled on all your switches.
Is you sccm dp a vm? If so what hyper visor? I'm also having multicast issues. Im finding I need flow control on the server port.

I ended ditching multicast and stream the image instead via SCCM. Much much quicker providing your infrastructure can take it. I can push out a 20gb image in about 35 minute for login.
And iI love the required option. Rebuilt a whole block of 50 on Fridaynight automatically

Is stream when the image is applied from the server?

thats the one. Its actually faster than i thought. Only thing is there is a little playing to do with the task sequence and programs but well worth it

I changed the TpMaxBandwidth in registry to 1 as a pose to the default which is 100. Performance is now 10000kbps with no nack/repair errors.
