[SCCM 2012] Distribution Point setup
Quick question regarding distribution points in SCCM! I have never needed to use them until now, but we have three remote primary schools that are connected to our school via wireless point to point links. To save bandwidth, i would like to use a machine located at the school to distribute content such as windows updates and endpoint updates.
But my question is regarding the deployment, can i add the distribution point to an existing advertisement and the remote clients will know to use the local point? Or does it have to use a separate advertisement that targets these remote machines and the specified distribution point int he school?

You need to get all your packages etc and hit distribute content and select your new distribution point as well as your old one.
I would make a distribution point group and then send all your content to the group. That way if you add another point to the group you won't need to go on each package.
You will only need to redeploy the packages if the clients are not in the same collections they are current deployed to.
Are the clients at the primary on a separate subnet? If you create a new boundary for the clients in the primary then assign that to your new distribution point the clients in the primary wont go to the distribution point in your school. Make sure the distribution point in your school doesn't include the boundary for the primary school or it might start going over the wifi link for content.

They are using a different subnet, so i could distribute the content that way. Will that mean that i can use an existing ADR for Endpoint updates?

Sorry what do you mean by ADR?

Is it Automated Deployment Rule?
If so than yes. You need to make sure the package is on the new distribution point as well as the existing one. If it is deployed to a collection that the machines from the Primary school will live in you dont need anything else to do. If they are not you need to deploy the existing rule to a new collection.
