    Microsoft UAG 2010 & Windows 8 Support

We use Microsoft UAG 2010 for our staff to run RDP and remote apps on their home computers . From what I'm reading on the Technet website it seems to imply that they don't currently support this using Windows 8 / IE 10?

UAG 2010 Service Pack 3 is in the works - Forefront UAG Product Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

Is it really the case the Microsoft aren't supporting the latest version of their own software or am I missing something ?

As with many Microsoft products (system centre to name just one) there does always seem to be a delay between the client/server OS release and the release of the tools to manage them.

Ultimately early adopters can use the beta editions of many of these services (don't think there is one for UAG as yet) however for most its just a matter of waiting.

Some companies like PaperCut are much better at supporting the early adopters and then you have people like RM who say yeaaahh we will do it....some day....

We came across this recently - there is a Windows Update for RDP on Windows 7 which also breaks the ability to connect to UAG published remote desktop sessions. Roll on SP3...

Edit: Just realised that is mentioned in the TechNet Article! Doh.

If some of our staff had installed something unusual, were running Windows 8 beta or had bought it the day it was released I could understand but when it's been out for over a quarter and anyone buying a new laptop will get it by default!

Maybe Windows 8 sales have been so poor that MS don't see it as a priority!

Your not missing anything, Windows 8 just isn't supported yet. it is pretty ridiculous, I believe UAG detects it as a Windows NT device...

This is a real issue when you want to see if a Windows tablet could work with UAG to offer file access and programs etc.

I noticed in another thread Microsoft Forefront TMG is now being retired. They haven't commented on UAG yet but the fact that it's taken over 6 months after release for MS to get round to making Windows 8 work with it makes me suspect it's probably not long for this world either.

I believe it is being continued, I'm sure they have said they are continuing with it.

Always one to take a risk, I have installed it, and our file access has broken.

    Windows 8 works though...

Could you let me know which update fixed your File Access? We're in the same boat. File Access works in Firefox but getting a 500 in IE - Cheers.

I have been checking this again this morning and it has broken again, I wonder if the restart from the updates solved it.

I have noticed that my UAG server has given me an error saying that my DC (the one used for File Access) is trying to access it to many times, and is going to be blocked. I have added this as an exception on TMG and I am going to try restarting it tonight and see if it works.

Well at least uninstalling SP3 went without a hitch, File Access now working again in IE9, people with IE10 will just have to carry on using Firefox or Chrome until a fix is found.

Features Depreciated in UAG 2010 SP3

'File Access' is one of them. Sigh.
