EduSweep 2.2 Released
Dear EduGeek,
I'm happy to announce the latest release in the EduSweep 2 series. It may have been over half a year since the previous update but the project is certainly alive and well - the only limiting factor is my degree workload which sometimes leaves little space for my EduGeek projects. I plan to continue supporting and developing EduSweep for free in the coming months and I have some useful changes planned out.
In the near term, this release focuses on improving the user interface, enhancing compatibility with Windows 7 and fixing bugs. EduSweep no longer requests UAC elevation and it integrates more tightly with Win 7 by providing taskbar progress indication and Aero-style dialogs. In recognition of the importance of the interface many areas have been sharpened to look and feel even better in use. It looks so good you'll want to lick it...uh, not that I can recommend that!

One of the largest changes you'll notice is that your tasks, reports, signatures and quarantined files will now roam with your user profile so that your custom setup is available on any workstation where EduSweep is installed. Many nagging bugs have also been fixed so you should have an all-round better experience.
This release also recognises that open-source software can be poorly documented and attempts to remedy this by providing a comprehensive 15 page user guide. It's written for humans, not developers (investigations into whether they're separate species is ongoing) and has been substantially re-written since the last version. Plus it's now beautifully typeset using LaTEX.
There has also been significant development internally to support larger changes that are planned for 2.2.1 and later 2.3. Looking ahead, I'll be working more on the scanning engine. Using the knowledge I've built up during my degree work I'd like to first enhance the speed and robustness of the software and then later give it some more bite by allowing it to analyse files in-depth, much as a commercial antivirus package would do.
Happy file hunting,
Paul
