Go to Quick Links > Mark Forums Read and it'll mark everything as read and you can start afresh

Blog Entries: 1 Rep Power: 45 | It now actually uses the db to set the read status. Before it used a mix/mash of session expiry and cookies to track read status. You can, using the minimenu, mark posts as read and that would clear the list. |

Blog Entries: 2 Rep Power: 53 | I think that it is better, the old system missed stuff out where as the new one seems far more precise. I did use the mark as read bit to do an initial clean out though. |

Rep Power: 6 | I am happy for the new method of picking out the new messages - I was just hoping we could have the new method with only displaying new posts. Jonathan |

Rep Power: 16 | A "Mark all posts before today's as read" could be useful! |

Blog Entries: 1 Rep Power: 45 | I have switched a few things so threads should be marked read without actually having to read the thread. We can run with it for a day and see what you think and finalize it then. Server load may still be a issue and I may have to revert but we can try it. Anything to keep the members happy |

Rep Power: 17 | I've struggled with the changes recently and have waited to see if things have settled down but I'm regularly not seeing replies to posts I'm involved with and I now have to manually check each thread to see if any replies have arrived as I can't trust new posts to show them. It seems to hide my subscribed posts if it thinks I've read them and doesn;t even show them up "below the line". My most recent example of problems was a post i made in the joomla thread - when I clicked on new posts some minutes later - Sysman's reply was already below the line evne though I definitely hadn't looked at new posts since I'd posted. I don't like going backwards but the old system worked for me a lot better that the new one. regards Simon |

Rep Power: 16 | I've been putting up too. Sorry ZH - I much preferred the old system where I didn't have pages of unread posts to clear down at regular intervals. Marking everything as read is OK, but that marks everything - including today - clicking on the link on the line between "new since my last visit" and older new posts just marks everything as read. (not everything below the line) Last edited by elsiegee40; 13-05-2008 at 05:09 PM.. |

Blog Entries: 1 Rep Power: 45 | Thanks for the feedback. I must admit myself I liked the session method personally where if you closed your browser they were then assumed read. I assume this is the system you both mean? aka the system that was in place from the start of secondus |

Both systems are an improvement on the old site though. I just thought I'd wait until someone else said something before I put my two-penn'orth in. Perhaps we need a poll about reverting? Although, your the one doing the site - so maybe your vote counts for more anyway
