Looking good.... get the feeling we're gonna have to start again on our map at some point?

Indeed, I've been playing with it singleplayer, and it is so much better. Exploring is fun, but terrifies me due to the the mobs now throwing things at you and poisoning you.

Exploring the underground ravines and mines are definitely going to be a group task now too, as getting lost is very very easy to do, as is being killed by the new blue spiders.

So, once we have it, we will need to organise some adventure parties, using TeamSpeak to communicate with each other!

How about a temporary 1.8 pre-release multiplayer world for us to play in?

Also, just to give an idea of the size of the abandoned mineshafts - I have been exploring one for at least 3 hours, have collected 2 stacks of iron and about 4 stacks of coal, and have barely scratched the surface of what's there to explore. Probably less than 1% of the underground system.

I will look at putting us to 1.8 tonight minus bukkit unless they release it today.

I've updated my personal server to 1.8 with a fresh new world if anyone wants to connect and have a play.
