A couple of options for you to get started with.

If you use SIMS - you could look at Sims Learning Gateway

    SIMS Learning Gateway

or another alternative is the TASC product

    Insight

People on this site use both products succesfully.

or if you use Serco you just use the standard E-Portal that you will no doubt be using already for staff, you just assign parents and off you go

We use something called STARS from HyperSpheric Solutions in Cambridge.

It works with SIMS.net and CMIS and is a doddle to setup.

Thank you all for the reply.

Sorry I am not in the school field but I am looking to create a website for a school. So does that mean that those suggested products are stand alone and don't integrate with Edugeek? I like what Edugeek offers but I didn't see student tracking piece and I am assuming it would be separate thing

I assume you mean the Edugeek Joomla package? If so, then no, there is no MIS integration for Joomla at the moment - it is purely a content management system. All the products listed above are either standalone, sharepoint based or moodle modules.

It really depends on what you want to present to parents. We currently have a basic website which presents information for parents and visitors only. In the future, we intend to move to an entirely sharepoint based site, with parental/staff/pupil/governors logins available to allow easy separation of the different bits of information that we want to post online.

The choice of the 'platform' to do this is very much guided by the goals of the site.

Get your MIS to export grades data, write something to haul it in to Joomla for you. If you're using SIMS, that means exporting XML data via CommandReporter and writing something to read that.
