Well, the site is now live! I'm in the process of teaching the old 'webmaster' how to add articles and the like.
It's been a long journey, selling the idea to the BM then SMT and they've finally seen the light. Still however keeping a seperate site for the Performing Arts side which is really basic html stuff, but I can only win one battle at a time!!!!
Based very heavily on EduGeek template with a number of tweaks and a number of additional modules added.
New site is hosted on SWGfL, with a straight bounce on the old hosting provider until I get the DNS pointer moved, but can been seen at: www.commonweal.co.uk if it doesn't bounce, go to The Commonweal School instead.
Comments & Critisms Welcomed (I won't take it too personal).

A lot of the data is a tad out of date after just copying the old site contents, but hopefully heads of dept and the like will be spurred onto adding more up to date content and making it all better!!!
Cheers to all those involved in this project.

1st March 2009, 10:59 PM #4 I like the site. How did you get the menu under the top banner to show up like that? Also, how did you resize the flash banner so you can put the 'Urgent News' block next to it? thanks

It's the EduJoomla theme, or one of them.
You can change the flash banner sizes in the jsn_imageshow_pro settings. Can't remember the exact location of the module settings and can't access a Joomla install to point you in the right direction. It can be done though and it's really easy. Just need somebody to tell you where the settings are if you don't already know. It's within the Joomla administrator.

Look under the EduGeek Projects forums and you will find the Joomla packages available.
Yes it's a 3rd party module.

Banner was a Photoshop job.
Thanks all for the comments, getting some nice feedback, but at the end of the day the majority of the work was the EduGeek Template. It has been a really good way of getting my head around Joomla proper. Now using it on a number of website I do for my 'ickle IT business I have on the side.

More than likely the SWGfL having a 'moment'. Loads as I would expect at home on my 1Mb connection.

2nd March 2009, 06:50 PM #13 Interesting look at the statistics for the site, seeing what pages are the most popular.
Ranked No. 1 is the blurb 'About the School', but this is woefully out of date. Closely followed is the Curriculum info and then the Contact information.
Hooked Google Analytics into the site as well, and since the launch we've have over 1100 visits from nearly 900 unique ip addresses. So happy with that. Presenting the website and all things Joomla to the Heads of Department next week to get them on board and hopefully submitting more content.
